Atorvastatin

Tablet

Atorvastatin Tablets belong to the statin class of medications used to lower cholesterol levels in the blood. It works by inhibiting cholesterol synthesis in the liver, thereby reducing LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides while increasing HDL (good cholesterol). This helps in preventing cardiovascular diseases such as heart attack, stroke, and atherosclerosis.

Mechanism

Atorvastatin inhibits the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. This results in decreased cholesterol production and increased uptake of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.

Pharmacodynamics

It reduces total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides while modestly increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby improving overall lipid profile and reducing cardiovascular risk.

Pharmacokinetics
